Fernandes named Premier League player of season
Manchester United skipper Bruno Fernandes has been crowned the Premier League Player of the Season following a sensational campaign for the Red Devils.
The Portuguese midfielder recently added another major accolade to his collection after being named the Football Writers’ Association Men’s Player of the Year earlier this month.
Fernandes matched the Premier League single-season assist record by registering his 20th assist during Manchester United’s clash against Nottingham Forest last weekend. Beyond his creativity, the midfield maestro has also found the back of the net eight times in 37 league appearances, playing a crucial role in helping United secure third place and a spot in next season’s UEFA Champions League.
The 29-year-old has been the league’s most creative player this season, producing an incredible 132 chances—43 more than Liverpool midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai, who sits second on the list.
His triumph makes him the first Manchester United player to win the prestigious award since Nemanja Vidic claimed it in 2011. The winner was determined through a combination of public voting and selections from a panel of football experts.
Other nominees for the award included Arsenal trio David Raya, Gabriel, and Declan Rice, Manchester City striker Erling Haaland, Brentford’s Igor Thiago, Nottingham Forest playmaker Morgan Gibbs-White, and Antoine Semenyo.
Manchester United will round off their league campaign with an away fixture against Brighton on Sunday.
Meanwhile, Michael Carrick’s backroom staff has received a boost after Steve Holland, Jonny Evans, Jonathan Woodgate, Travis Binnion, and Craig Mawson all agreed fresh two-year contracts to remain with the coaching setup.
Carrick himself recently committed his future to the club by signing a permanent two-year deal on Friday, having initially stepped in on an interim basis following Ruben Amorim’s dismissal in January.
