Manchester United renew interest in Baleba amid Brighton struggles
Manchester United are continuing to monitor Carlos Baleba, with the 22-year-old Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder once again emerging as a potential transfer target ahead of the next window.
Baleba was already on United’s radar last summer, when personal terms were reportedly close to being agreed on his behalf. Although the move ultimately did not materialise, the club has maintained a close watch on his development since then.
The Cameroonian international has endured a mixed campaign on the south coast. He has been substituted in 15 Premier League matches, including four half-time withdrawals, and has completed a full 90 minutes only three times—raising questions over his consistency and adaptation within Brighton’s system.
Despite those struggles, United’s recruitment team remain convinced by his underlying attributes. His physicality, ability to cover ground, regain possession, and progress the ball through midfield are all seen as qualities that fit the club’s long-term midfield rebuild.
Scouts have also tracked his performances for Cameroon at the Africa Cup of Nations, where he featured alongside Bryan Mbeumo. Across five appearances, his displays were regarded internally as encouraging and indicative of his long-term potential at international level.
With midfield reinforcement expected to be a priority for Manchester United, Baleba remains firmly under consideration as the club assesses its options ahead of the upcoming transfer window.
