Popular Nollywood actor Tobi Makinde has addressed rumours of a fallout with filmmaker and actress Funke Akindele following her absence at his December 2025 wedding.

Reports had circulated online suggesting a rift between the two, especially given their close working relationship over the years, with Funke often regarded as a mentor figure to Tobi in the industry.

However, in an interview with the BBC, Tobi dismissed the claims, stating that social media tends to create narratives that are not always rooted in reality.

Speaking in Pidgin, he clarified that there is no known issue between them:

“I’m not aware of any fallout between madam Funke and I. Nothing really happened. Our relationship did not start on social media and no be for social media e go end.”

He further explained that as people grow and evolve, relationships may naturally change or appear distant:

“As you grow and move from one level to another, some relationships may look like they are lost in transit.”

Tobi Makinde rose to prominence through his roles in Funke Akindele’s productions, which helped establish him as a recognizable face in Nollywood.
