Slot hints Alisson could leave Liverpool this summer

Arne Slot has not ruled out the possibility of Alisson Becker leaving Liverpool this summer, amid growing transfer speculation surrounding the Brazilian goalkeeper.

The injury-hit No.1, who is currently sidelined once again, has reportedly attracted interest from Juventus. Slot was asked about his future on Friday but avoided giving any definitive commitment.

When it was suggested that Liverpool cannot afford to lose Alisson’s experience—especially with senior figures like Andy Robertson and Mohamed Salah also linked with potential exits—Slot responded:

“Well, that is your opinion and I will bring that opinion to the ownership and to Richard Hughes. I think the club is run in a certain way and we make decisions that the club thinks are in the best interests of the club.”

He added that all decisions are made carefully:

“Nothing was done without a purpose or without thinking about it. The people who make these decisions take everything into account.”

On Alisson’s situation, Slot emphasized that experience is only one factor:

“It is definitely one argument to keep him but there are other arguments. In the end, he still has one year on his contract.”

Alisson, who joined Liverpool from AS Roma in 2018 for £67 million, has made 332 appearances for the club and has won every major trophy available at Anfield.

The Liverpool boss also stressed that his immediate focus is on the player’s recovery, noting that Alisson is working towards a return alongside backup goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili, who is also injured. This means third-choice Freddie Woodman is expected to start against Crystal Palace.

Slot further dismissed ongoing speculation, saying:

“We don’t react to rumours. He wants to play for the club he loves and for his country.”

He also commented on the growing issue of injuries in football, pointing to the increasingly congested fixture schedule and its impact on players’ fitness, referencing recent cases such as Lamine Yamal.
