Boko Haram food supplier, Hamatu Modu jailed 40 years in Abuja
Justice Binta Fatima Nyako of the Federal High Court in Abuja has jailed a major food supplier to Boko Haram terrorists in Borno State. Hamatu Modu will spend 40 years in prison for his role in terrorism activities.
Modu admitted in open court that he supplied food items and information to terrorists. The federal government put him on trial through the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice.
He faced 4 charges and immediately admitted he was guilty of all of them.
The Director of the Public Prosecution of the Federation, DPPF, Rotimi Oyedepo, SAN, led the prosecution.
When Justice Nyako gave his judgment, he sentenced Modu to 10 years on each of the charges. But after the defence lawyer asked for mercy, the judge said the 40 years should run at the same time. This means the convict will only spend 10 years in prison.
In a separate case, Isah Ali, another food supplier also in Borno, was jailed for 10 years by Justice Nyako.
His jail term will start from three years ago when he was arrested and put in detention.
The convict admitted that he committed the crime he was charged with.
Justice Nyako ordered that both convicts must go through rehabilitation and deradicalisation programmes after they finish their jail terms.
The Federal Ministry of Interior was told to decide where the two men will serve their jail terms.
